The region

The Cathar region has a fascinating medieval history.
The Gorges de Galamus, carved out by the River Agly, are perfect if you want to swim in the heart of the... wild landscape. Although bathing is possible in certain areas, it is essential to respect local regulations and ensure the safety of the site. The Cathar castles, remnants of a tumultuous past, tell the story of the battles between the Cathars and the Crusaders, and nearby you can enjoy climbing, canyoning, mountain biking and other outdoor sports. The sea is just a few kilometres away for swimming and water sports. Thesurrounding Catalan villages, with their traditions and gastronomy, are well worth a visit. The region is famous for its organic wines, which you can taste in the local cellars. Don't miss the night markets and events that make this region so lively. Dates and times vary from one commune to another. We recommend that you consult the local tourist offices for the latest information.
Finally, to extend your discovery of the Pyrénées-Orientales, you should know that the owners of La Tour de France campsite also manage two other campsites in the region, each offering a different atmosphere and varied settings: Les Portes du Canigou, close to Prades and the thermal cures at Molitg-les-Bains, and Le Petit Canada, an establishment at an altitude of 1600 metres. Three different atmospheres to discover even more of the Catalan hinterland.
